The right story for investors

Your business plan is spot on and lucrative. But investors just don’t ‘get’ you.

.

You need an ‘elevator pitch,’ the 30-to-60-second description of a business that resonates with investors and separates them from their money.

.

And there is no single formula for creating the perfect pitch.

 .

Remember there are safer ways for investors to make money than by throwing cash at you. People willing to risk the kind of capital you need want reassurances that you will be profitable and have a vision to make a difference. The first Apple and Google and Facebook investors were enticed as much by the prospect of changing the world as they were by the promise of making money.

.

If you’re approaching investors, appeal to both their hearts and their minds. The elevator pitch must:

  • Demonstrate your company is led by managers who know how to monetize great ideas.
  • Entice investors with a vision to transform an industry or, rather more immodestly, the world.
  • Show the company understands that it must deliver predictable financial results.
